The Superkart’s returned to the flowing circuit for the first time in 3 years. With Jason Dredge newly crowned 2008 MSA British Champion was it going to be a quite day in the office for the Reading based driver or would he got out an show the spectators why he is this years champion.

Would the magic 100mph lap be attained?  With the 250 Div 1 karts on circuit in the BSA championship it could be a possibility. With ex World champion Trevor Roberts and current British champion Paul Kenning on the track it was likely.

Untimed Practice. 09:36

With a damp circuit is was bound to catch some drivers out. Karl Kinsey was the biggest looser of the session with a big off coming out of Camp Corner just catching a damp patch.

Dave Harvey (Anderson / FPE) topped the Div 1 times with a 1:09.068, followed by John Riley (Anderson / Rotax) and Steve White (PVP / Rotax). Steve Briggs with 2 x 125 TM on a Raider Chassis was down in 8^th.

In the 250 National Class it was local driver Craig Fleming who was on top with a 1:09.362 followed by Dean Hawley, Sam Moss and Jon Nevile. Jason Dredge (GP) was down in 5^th and Gavin Bennett (E) in 7^th all on Anderson / Honda’s.

With the weather looking good the timed qualifying could be quick

Qualifying. 11:50

With a drying track was it going to local drivers Craig Fleming and Gavin Bennett up the front in 250 National. With the grid over subscribed all the reserves also had to Qualify.

The 250 Nationals were all close and in the end it was Craig Fleming who topped the times with a 1:08.545 with Kevin Waring and Jason Dredge taking 2^nd and 3^rd quickest. The 2007 European Champion Gavin Bennett was in 4^th.

The 250 Twins (Div 1) were over 1 second per lap quicker than the 250 Nationals. Carl Hulme put his Anderson / FPE on pole by 0.2 of a second. John Riley and Dave Harvey were 2^nd and 3^rd respectively. Steve White was in 4^th but was suffering with his recovering left ankle over the bumps.

Race 1

With local driver Craig Fleming on pole the 250 National grid eased up to the light. The start was clean and they set off towards fast Folly, Avon Rise and then the tight right hander at Quarry. Would they all be seen again by the end of the first lap?

Gavin Bennett was the first to drop out and this was due to a seize. Craig Fleming stopped on lap 7 with a broken ignition wire.  Mark Vaughn and Mathew Bett both retired on lap 9.  Over the line it was James Oreilly, Don Kennedy, Jason Dredge with Sam Moss taking 4th.  

The 250 Twins (Div 1) started some 20 seconds behind with Carl Hulme leading the grid to the lights. Steve White was out on lap 1 with a main bearing problem.  Carl Hulme went up the inside at Camp to take the lead. Trevor Roberts touched the rear of Carls outfit and Trevor went off in to the tyres. He was OK. Carl carried on to take the win with fasted lap 1:05.881 (101.09mph).  

Race 2

With the same format start as race 1 the 250 National came round to the lights first.  The pack set off with a few drivers getting better starts that others. Dean Hawley was out after doing 1 lap after being hit from behind.  Again it was Kennedy, Dredge, Fleming fighting it out in front. Parker, Moss and Neville were chasing hard.

After starting at the back Gavin Bennett managed to get up to 7^th.  The Irishman Dewart followed Bennett home in 8^th. Mathew Bett from Scotland was having a bad day at the office with another DNF.

The 250 Twins (Div 1) race started with Carl Hulme going backwards due missing a gear. Trevor Roberts was having troubles with bodywork and retired on lap 2. Steve Briggs and Dave Harvey were having a good battle until they touched on lap 7 going in to camp. Both came off. Harvey managed to get gong again to finish 5^th. The order over the line was Hulme, Kinsey, Kennings, Holloway, Harvey and Bagley.
