Report by Rob Willshire (Cold, Wet and Shivering Still and trying to remember the weekend)

Photos by Ian Rushforth.

Most teams arrived on Saturday to do the 2 test sessions. Both sessions were to prove useful to the drivers how had never visited the circuit. The first session was dry with some damp patches but slicks were the chosen tyre and 3 lap records were broken. The second session was dry and some of the times were looking good.

Race Day.

Sunday was to prove interesting!!! The practice was on slicks and the times were slightly off the pace as the karts were first out on a cold green track.

The 250 Twins were in the 53's and the 250 Nats in the 54's then we had the 125's in the 58's.  The 125 ICC proved to be quick by all towing each other. A lesson the opens could learn.

Trevor Roberts headed the times with a 53.325.

Race 1

Race 1 was dry and 3 new lap records were set.

The 250's went off the front with some 125 driver complaining that they would only get 9 laps not the 10.

The race was close in the first few laps with Roberts (Anderson/PVP) and McAdam (ADE/FPE) Dewart (Anderson/Rotax) in the 250's pushing the outfits to the limits. After a Few laps Roberts had established a gap and keeping it to the end.

The 125's were mixed with Opens and ICC outfits mixing it. Platt (F1/TM) who has a terrible qualifying managed to get a good start and fought his way to the front. Platt was followed by Edwards (CAT/TM) and Borton (BRM/TM). 125 Open Championship contender Irvine who showed promise in the qualifying ended up with a DNF.

New Lap Records

125 ICC - 55.797 by Daniel Borton

125 Open - 55.107 by Paul Platt

250 National - 50.207 by Stephen McAdam

Race 2

Wet was an understanding! This time it was Dewart out in Front from the Flag with Roberts in Tow. O'Reilly and Bett from 250 National were tucked in behind and Fox in a twin followed. The conditions were diabolical and the gaps between the outfits grew greater as the race went on due to visibility.  The 125 outfits were showing size doesn't matter in the wet. Platt on a 125 Open was 7th on the road and Edwards and Iies in 9th and 10th.

The race was Red Flagged due to the conditions and karts in gravel traps.

Race 3

The circuit was wet and drying and the sun was out. As the drivers were call the heavens opened up again and the wind was around force 8. Awning were taking off. And taking off was going to be a Race 3 word.

The start was clean at the front but at the back it was blind. After lap 1 it was Roberts, Dewart, R'Oeilly in the 250's. In the 125's it was Platt out in front with Iies and Borton following in the spray. on Lap 2 Phil Jamx "aquamania" Jones aquaplaned going over the crest on the main straight. He clatters backwards in to the wall. Luckily he stayed against the will and walled away. With several karts aquaplaning and some leaving the circuit the race was Red Flag on lap 8.
