Photos on http://www.pljphoto.com/vieworg.asp?Org=New+Era The first race of the 2009 Superkart season took place at It was 2008 British 250 National Champion Jason Dredge that took pole position, just over a second clear of Craig Fleming and Jon Neville, both of whom were looking to build on impressive campaigns last season. Martin Goodliffe qualified 4th, but was involved in a nasty incident at the end of the session which left him sidelined for the day. Ben Willshire headed up the 125 Open class in 5th overall, ahead of ICC class pole-sitter Lloyd Scrivens, who was a fraction of a second quicker than Mark Brookman, Ben Hughes and Catherine Foster, highlighting once again the closeness of this class at Long Circuit. The 210 class saw UK Cup winner Charles Morris on pole, half a second faster than Tom Whyte, with reigning champion Don Thompson third. With the ICC class leading the field round to start race one, it was somewhat of a surprise come the race end to see an ICC take the chequered flag first, never mind the winning gap!! Having ended lap one 0.06 behind Mark Brookman, Lloyd Scrivens capitalised on Brookman’s kart expiring to take what at first was a nice lead ahead of rookie drivers Adam Underhill and Matt Clarke, but come the end of the race he found himself with a 12 second lead ahead of second on the road Ben Willshire!!! The three ICC class rookies, Adam Underhill, Kevin Gray and Matt Clarke had a race long battle with the Open class winner Willshire, Underhill breaking clear of Gray and Clarke to secure 2nd in ICC, with Gray pipping Clarke by under a quarter of a second. Jason Dredge had dominated the 250 class following the early retirements of Neville and Fleming, but found himself sidelined with under a lap to go. This left Andrew Dean to come home as 250 class winner, followed by rookie Paul Walley with Mick Shaw in third. Simon Bateman came home a clear winner in 210 National, with Bob Pooley a lonely 2nd followed home by Don Thompson in 3rd. The natural order was restored in race two, with 250
National Drivers Jason Dredge and Jon Neville battling through to take first and
second on the road, Dredge keeping a comfortable lead throughout. 3rd
in class and 8th on the road was Paul Walley; another impressive
showing from the rookie driver. It took until lap six for Lloyd Scrivens to
break the ICC pack, but when he did, he quickly pulled away and took a six
second win ahead of F250 Nat:1st) Paul Walley 2nd) Mick Shaw 3rd) Jason Dredge
