Race Report by Rob Willshire & Gary James

Mixed weather conditions at Pembrey brought out the best in the Pocket Rockets.

Race 1 - Saturday

The conditions on Saturday were perfect in race one for James O’Reilly (Viper Anderson Honda) who took the win from Martin Jones (Anderson Honda)  in 2nd and Jason Dredge (KRI Anderson Honda)  in 3rd. Sam Moss (Anderson Honda) who started at the back of the 29 strong field had a meteoric drive through the pack to finish in fourth place. The battle at the front was intense and Martin Jones was giving both Dredge and O’Reilly a run for their money.  A rare mistake by Dredge allowed Jones in to second at the exit of Honda Curve . This allowed O’Reilly to pull a gap out in front until the flag. New comers Adam Underhill and Louis Wall both finished in the top 10.

Race one:

1 James O'Reilly (PVP) 11 laps in 10m29.228s (91.63mph);

2 Martin Jones (Anderson) +0.938s;

3 Jason Dredge (Anderson);

4 Sam Moss (Anderson);

5 Malcolm Clark (Anderson);

6 Dan Clark (Anderson).

Fastest Lap: O'Reilly 56.248s (93.18mph).

Pole position: Jones 56.483s (92.79mph).

Starters: 29.

Race 2 – Sunday

The paddock awoke to rain on the Sunday morning. With the Superkarts not out until 14:00 it was hoped and looked like the weather would clear. But as if on que the rain started.

On the run down to the Hairpin it was anyone’s guess. On the exit it was Dredge leading the pack. Jones was holding second from O’Reilly who squeezed passed Jones at Dibein on lap 2. O’Reilly managed to catch and pass Dredge a few laps later. But this was short lived. O’Reilly pulled in to the pits with a broken spark plug tip. Malcolm Clark passed Jones for second places. Jones was suffering from understeer as his tires has started to go off. On the last lap Clarke was forced on to the grass by a back marker on the exit of Dibeni. He managed to collect it up in a brilliant piece of driving loosing only one his second place to Jones. Again the Newcomers were joining in the fight in the top 10. Adam Underhill in 6th leading them home from teenager Ben Davis 7th and his brother Toby Davis in 10th.  Richard Dewart from Northern Ireland finished both races to take home valuable points.

Race two:

1 Jason Dredge (Anderson) 11 laps in 11m14.638s (85.46mph);

2 Martin Jones (Anderson) +7.122s;

3 Malcolm Clark (Anderson);

4 Sam Moss (Anderson);

5 Dan Clark (Anderson);

6 Adam Underhill (Anderson).

Fastest Lap: O'Reilly 1m00.198s (87.07mph).

Pole position: O’Reilly. Starters: 27

The fight is on to get the test drive in the Ginetta G50 at the end of the season. The series is being supported by Ginetta Cars Ltd.
